Have you taught at other schools? If so, where?
I have. Two years ago I covered an extended maternity leave position at Staten Island Academy. It was from March until the end of the year. Then last year I taught at a public school up in Chappaqua. I taught middle school there.
What subject do you teach? What do you like about that subject?
I teach Latin 2 to the sophomores and then IB Latin 2 for the seniors. I like them both for different reasons: The IB class, that’s where I live most of the time, but I really enjoy the Latin 2 class because it really makes me think about everything and has me second-guessing myself. If you’re not second-guessing yourself, you’re not learning.
What do you like to do outside of school? What hobbies do you have?
So, I was always pretty athletic. Climbing, assorted sports, archery, the occasional shooting rifles and shotguns, not so much handguns. As [a] student I also didn’t have the time to do that, so my leisure time was spent mostly on computer games and reading. So I still play a lot of computer games, and I do a lot less reading.
What is your favorite movie?
Favorite movie. That’s hard. The Star Wars original trilogy (you have to be careful with that). That’s something I grew up with. I would watch it like almost every week. And then Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings adaptation trilogy. I still marathon the extended cuts every year, once a year. And lately, most of the MCU has been fantastic.
Which borough do you live in?
Okay, so, I’ve been living in Manhattan for the five years of undergraduate and the two years of graduate so this is now the eighth year of living in Manhattan. But I’ve been looking to get out of where I am now and either move closer to TBLS or at the very least closer in Manhattan to the L-train so that my commute is shorter.
