The digital art, “Gaze Afar,” is an illustration that symbolizes the many who are situated in the mires yet still fight intrepidly towards their rights, equality, and aspired future. This illustration is inspired by the many of the brave African Americans throughout history who are willing to sacrifice themselves from a young age for the future of their generations, such as Tommie Smith and John Carlos during the 1968 Olympics. This drawing reflects the black experience by demonstrating the perspective of many young black Americans today, who are willing to make history, are willing to cross the hindrances in front of them, and leap steadfastly towards their hopeful future.
